I am new to web services, I am getting a "InvalidOperationException : response not well formed XML" exception from a third party web service(no access to code within) that I am consuming in my code.
Can someone tell me a way to take a look at the XML response, may be storing it in a text file or log file or something like that. I have seen a few help topics on this forum as well as other forums where they have the same error, but also post their response
XML asking for help. I have no idea how to get the response XML, so that i can see what the issue is.

You could use message logging :

does message logging code go into web service? or my application that is consuming the webservice?
Sorry if it is a dumb question......I m confused here.....

Have you written WCF client or ASMX/soap client?
If you have written WCF client, then, you can enable message logging at your end and can see the exact request and response xml by enabling MessageLogging feature.
The change is only in your .config file to enable this feature.
