We're running SSRS 2012 reports in a ReportViewer control, in a C# 2010 web app. The reports themselves are on a server that has occasional performance issues.
Our reports are usually composed of a number of sub-reports.
Today, after an excessively long run time the viewer displayed the report but only the first few sub-reports.
The others displayed the error message: Subreport could not be shown.
The sub-reports themselves will run individually.
Can server performance issues cause the return of a partial report?

Thanks for your posting.
From your description, I understand that you have a reprot and some sub-reports. Sometimes, they works not good.
I think your report contains more than one dataset. The report also contains a data region that contains a subreport.
The subreport contains a top-level subreport and a data region that contains at least one subreport.
When you view thereport, you receive the following error message: Error: Subreport could not be shown.
Please download and install the proper CU based on your SQL Server environment.

Thanks for your response but that reference you provided is for SQL 2008. We're running 2012.
My report definitely contains a large number of data sets.
Let me reword question: Can performance issues alone cause the failure of some but not all sub-reports in an otherwise valid report?
