The white background on the ? image that shows to the left of threads, in say the Unanswered Threads page, looks cheap/amateurish. Can we remove that white background/make it transparent?
It just doesn't blend into the row/page; I guess that's a personal preference.
Having said that I noticed (later) that on my other computer there is no white background on the image. I guess it's different setting(s) in the browsers/computers. However I still maintain it'd look more tasteful to have the background be transparent. It
would just look nicer.
It must be an issue with a specific browser or just an opinion as I haven't really noticed any issues with it or it's appearance.
It should be noted that based on the
sprite sheet itself it looks like very few of the sprites being used in there are actually transparent (with the exception being the mailbox-related icons, search and possibly the "Question Marked As Answer" sprites).
On every browser I am using (Chrome, Firefox, IE 9) in Windows 7, and on my Android device (Chrome and "native"), those images appear on white backgrounds and the page background is white. So I'd like to get crisp on exactly when they are not appearing
on white backgrounds so that we can repro and make a case for submitting the work for a design change. Can you let me know, ideally with a screenshot and browser info?
To see what I'm talking about, in an extreme way, in IE go into settings then Colors button (under Appearance), then uncheck the "Use Windows colors". This will make the page background gray and you'll clearly see the white background on the ? image.
Edit: Contast that with the green checkmark image in your My Threads page which looks nicer (no white background) and blends better. Much more tasteful :)
I understand the extreme circumstances where the non-transparent background can make a difference, just trying to figure out the priority in which to address this....if every site visitor using a certain default browsing environment is seeing a problem,
or just those who have turned on some "unusual" settings. It sounds like the latter.
This will be evident to anyone who has changed the browser colors as I stated before, or have altered the Windows color schemes to use different background color in windows or dialogs (not sure which). Most people probably don't change them. But for those
who do, me, it looks cheap/odd or whatever word you like to use. Especially, as stated before, if you look at it in the My Threads and you contrast that icon/image with the green checkmark image.

Thanks for the suggestion. What about it makes it look cheap?

Obviously this isn't high priority...
