I am currently exploring exception handling with SignalR 2.0 RC1, and it appears that when an exception occurs at the server tier, it bubbles up as an exception message (string) on the client:
// e is really the exception.Message
Is there any way to configure SignalR to return the Exception object instead of the message? It would be incredibly useful/valuable to have access to the stack trace and type of error that is being thrown, for instance.

In the final 2.0 release, we've enabled this. You'll be able to throw a HubException and pass any extra data that will make it back to the client. Today we only pass the exception message back to the client.
