You'll need to elaborate a bit more on what you are trying to ask - as it is currently very vague (and will be difficult to provide a meaningful or applicable answer for).
A simple search engine query yielded the following resources, which may be able to shed some light on what you are looking for :
Most of these relate to tracking changes within databases, which might be what you are looking for (perhaps for XML-specific columns?)

I need to do what this does, except for .net http://www.deltaxml.com/solutions/use-cases/xml-audit-trail
I need the xml file to be able to have data history on changes to the file.
Curently the column is of type xml and we simply read the xml, then change the xml node, then reupdate the xml value in the column. The question is how can I control versioning of changes to the xml file?

The fastest way : compute a hash on old and new version. If they do not match, register the "modified state" and store both the old and new versions of the XML. This works for any XML. Comparing XML is only usefull/possible when they have the same structure.
In this case you could deserialize them to objects, an perform an object level comparison.
