trying to find out user network type (gprs/edge/3g) based on the time taken by the device to download a file.
how to calculate the time taken by devcie to download a file? how is IIS calculating the time taken?
currently im serving download from a handler using Response.TransmitFile()

Unfortunately you won't get that information using Web application. It's possible through thick application(which can be installed on the device).

thanks for reply. how is IIS performing the calculation for IIS logs? is it possible to calculate it generally the time taken by the client to download? even if its a web browser?

IIS performs at the server end. It logs the time which it receives the Request and send the Response!
May be you can do something like, time you request for the file and after download, you can log the time. Tricky part is, notifying once the download is complete!
link to get notified once the file is downloaded. This way you can try your luck :)
