Suggestion has been proposed
earlier and also
here and it seems it's in the backlog as mentioned
here but would love to know when can we have that feature in near future?
Not only voting up the answers that were helpful (or might be better than marked answer) will help but users should be able to downvote Questions/Answers that are posted without any effort/research or necessary code as
here will make experience better.
Not only it will help the person ladning on particular post, find the helpful answer or similar question but saves time of members on this site by just checking the Up/Down votes for particular question/answer.
Also would like to know the status of this
suggestion ? At least it could help newbie posting similar question that already had been answered to phrase his question or he may avoid posting the question altogether as he might have found the answer.
Please share your views.

Now, I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to ASP.NET (the website), but I've been around forums where they put this to use as well (TechNet courtesy of my TechNet subscription and MSDN, because of my recent developing projects). Then again; I've also been
quite active (at least for some time) on the Office blog, which is an important aspect here...
To be honest I don't consider it a missing feature. I think just because other Microsoft (-based) websites use this approach doesn't make it a commonly usable feature. Sometimes it simply doesn't add up.
Also keep in mind (but here's my lack of experience kicking in) that over here there are moderators around who will also try to keep some control. I get the impression (though could be wrong) that they'll also intervene should someone try to "sabotage" a
Another thing why I'm a little opposed to the idea is that sometimes the culture also needs to match.
A good example (IMO) are the Office blogs. Awesome place to roam and learn about Office IMO. At one time they also introduced the option which allowed us to vote on comments. Guess what? It was hardly being used because the people couldn't care less about
that, all they wanted was to comment or dicuss about topics.
I get the feeling this is no different. From the last weeks that I've been lurking (and now becoming a little more active) I have yet to see a thread which makes me think that "we should be able to downvote that guy".
As for upvoting; simply reading a thread should be well sufficient to pick out the right information.
Just my 2 cents here mind you, and once again; do keep in mind that I've only been here for approx. 1 - 1.5 months or so.

Those suggestions are still on the backlog and will likely be implemented in the coming months:
The "helpfulness" work would come first, and the search and exposure of related questions when posting a new question would follow.

another long standing one is this: make it way more easier for people to report, and with a guided way, things going wrong towards the moderation team. If more people see the feature they'll hopefully also report more and we can keep these forums even cleaner
then it's now.

That will be coming soon. We have that functionality mocked up and I discussed it with the dev team. Should be in April.
