Usually connect to an external database but I wanted to fiddle with creating a project with a local database. I am using SQLServer Express Local Database, not CE.
I can add tables with EF but if I right click on Tables in Server Explorer the only options I have are Refresh and Properties, i.e. no Add Table menu option. Similarly, if I right click on one of the tables EF has created I also get only the Refresh and
Properties menu options so I can't add rows, etc. Same problem with stored procedures; I can't add any (should I want to do some testing with EF and stored procedures) because I only have the Refresh and Properties menu options.

In Server Explorer right click Data Connections and choose Create New SQL Server database...
For server name enter (localdb)\v11.0 (default LocalDB instance) and choose a database name. Right click tables and Add New Table... Etc...
It may depend on the Visual Studio 2012 Version...I'm using Ultimate

Tried your suggestion. Same result unfortunately - no add table menu option. I'm using Professional.

I have isolated this problem to VS2012 Professional. When I follow your suggestion with VS2010 it works exactly as we expect - I can add tables and stored procedures. Following the same steps with VS2012 results in the situation where there is no menu option
to add either tables or stored procedures. I produced these test results with SQLServer 2012 LocalDB.

I know it is some work but can you install a fresh virtual machine with just visual studio 2012?...maybe the
Visual Database Tools from both versions (VS2010 and VS2012) are conflicting some how.

I wondered if it might be an issue of VS2010 & 2012 running on the same system. I'm migrating to a new PC in a few days anyway, and won't be installing 2010, so we'll soon get a chance to test that hypothesis.

You can install Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2012 in the same PC, I think it maybe has something wrong when you install
Visual Studio 2012.

You need to install SQL Server Data Tools for VS 2012 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/data/hh297027
