I have a database and a asp.net web application remotely hosted.
I am using VWD Express 2010 and would like users to run reports which fetch data from the remote database.
Reports, I understand, need to be hosted in Report Server or must be viewed using Report Viewer control on a web form or win form.
The hoster already informed me that they won't allow me to publish any report in their report server.
So I tried Local Report Manager with remote connection. It throws the following error:
The second option is stand alone Report Builder which I used to locally run a report and fetch data from the remote database, but the credential(user name and password) is not saved unless the report is saved in the report server. I cannot give the credential
to the users.
The third option is to develop a web application in VWD Express 2010, put a report viewer control. However, the design view is throwing error so I have not proceeded further with the approach.
Is there any way to display a report on my web page which can query remote database subject to the condition that I am using VWD Express 2010 or later?
I think I cannot. Correct me if I am wrong.
Can subscribing to Azure Cloud service solve this problem? Can Azure Cloud establish a remote connection and fetch data to populate a report hosted in the cloud?
Thanks in Advance.

The edition of Reporting Services that you are using requires that you use local SQL Server relational databases for report data sources and the report server database.
It seems you need to check with your hoster again. You can try other provider that support SSRS, I know hostforlife.eu support this technology, you can ask them first before register. Azure is good but very costly for SSRS.

VWD 2008 Express does allow a developer to build report locally.
This edition comes with a report viewer control so a web page or a win form may hold the local report.
I have successfully uploaded a rdlc report and a web page with reportviewer control that views the rdlc report in a website.
VWD 2010 or later express editions have removed the feature.
So it looks like I have to buy the standard edition.
That's exactly what the MS Sales team wanted.
