I am developing ASP.Net web sites on Visual Studio 2005, with C# code behind, on a laptop with Windows XP Home SP3. No IIS on it.
I have created users with a CreateUserWizard, but failed to open the ASP.Net configuration interface to modify their rights. The ASP.Net configuration interface is the asp.netwebadminfiles page, that you open by clicking on the good icon in the solution
explorer in Visual Studio.
When I did that, I obtained this :
An error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again.
The following message may help in diagnosing the problem:
System.ArgumentException: The parameter 'PhysicalDirectory' is invalid. Parameter name: PhysicalDirectory at System.Web.Configuration.VirtualDirectoryMapping.set_PhysicalDirectory(String
value) at System.Web.Configuration.VirtualDirectoryMapping..ctor(String physicalDirectory, Boolean isAppRoot) at System.Web.Administration.WebAdminPage.OpenWebConfiguration(String path, String appPhysPath, Boolean getWebConfigForSubDir) at System.Web.Administration.WebAdminPage.OpenWebConfiguration(String
path, Boolean getWebConfigForSubDir) at System.Web.Administration.WebAdminPage.VerifyAppValid()
and as you imagine, this is not what I intended.
Here is what I tried, after suggestions on a french newsgroup :
Unfortunately, I still get the same error.
I tried starting Visual Studio after renaming the "Application Data" folder for it. Still the same situation.
I asked the question in the .Net Framework Setup forum on social.msdn.microsoft.com, but I am not quite sure it is not better to ask it somewhere here.
Any idea of what to do ? Or of other places to ask the question ?
