We are looking for an alternative reporting solution to Crystal Reports. I know people will say ssrs but there are times we are building tools that are on sql express so ssrs is not able to be used. Do people have any suggestions that they have had luck

Both Crystal Report and SQL Server reporting services are available free. Other options are paid and require license.

Thanks for the reply and we plan to use ssrs when able but when systems use sql express we don't have that option. We have had some missfortune with crystal is the reason we are looking for an alternative.

Are you able to update your SQL Express installation to SQL Server Express with Advanced Services? This will provide you with Reporting Services.
Telerik has nice reporting tools but there is a cost involved.

thanks jprochazka. Unfortunately we are not always able to upgrade those instances.
Telerik was one we were looking at using actually. We are not dettered by the cost but wanted to make sure that would be the right move and there wasn't something better out there.

i)Why don't you want to use Crystal Reports ?It may help other.
ii) What development tool are you using like asp.net,php...etc.
iii)Is your plan specfic for any project or overall.
I think around 90% of report can be displayed in web page itself(say using asp.net(c#).No need of any reporting tool.
It is very fast, easy to format.
There is one alternative i remember.."Power Builder ".But not much idea about it.

We ditched Crystal a while back in favor of Telerik Reports and we have never looked back.
