SQL Server 2008 R2
Configured SSRS, able to produce reports using windows authentication
BUILTIN\Administrators . All working as expected.
Now it is required to provide access to end users [Business users], so that they can access db tables and create reports on their own without relying on IT dept.
Is there any open source/tool that can abstract direct access to tables and provide access to SSRS manager tool? I think that SSRS manager provides readonly access to data.
Any useful urls/resources appreciated.

You can use ReportModel for the mentioned requirement. In this you can develop the Data model and deploy it on your ReportManager and from there End user can built report using the ReportModel.

Report model acts like an abstract layer between actual data and SQL Server Report Manager?

yes it will give the users the ability to create their own reports and select what data they want in them.
