I develop a site for a client that has the following http module functionality, which was working fine on the servers hosting it (discount asp.net) until the 28th April.
The module sends out emails to a client base, building up the HTML template and content from information stored in SQL, based on discount asp.net settings and security it does the following:
The maximum amount of emails to send per day is set to 1000 in the config - You advise 5000 limit (discount asp.net support team) but this is configurable by webconfig for my module so i can increase to 5000 if we need to.
The module will check the table containing the sent log every 2 minutes using a timer in the class - the sent log contains a record of each mail address sent to, if less than max amount for the current date (currently 1000), it will select an email
address from the contacts table by its current position. IE last email address sent too to row 399 - john smith, next row 400, dan smith.
THe module will send the mail, we update the sent log table with new position for next send, and add the last sent to our sent log.
This means each email will go individually, without overloading or issues with the amount adding to TO or CC or BCC, and also allows us to identify issues by the last sent log and current position, should it stop working for any reason.
On the 28th April they installed some microsoft updates and now it doesnt work, they are unhelpful to say the least, and cannot advise what they did, or how to fix it - (whilst i know there supposed to be one of the best hosting companies from recent issues
and there lack of knowledge i am starting to doubt this greatly). The module isnt firing as it has a try catch which if it hits and issue should email me the error message but i am not getting anything, and they are not recieving any server errors.
Can anyone shed some light on why / what might have caused the recent issues, or is anyone else having similar issues from recent updates to servers running IIS 6 upwards.
Thanks for any help
