I have been haveing an issue now for about 2 weeks so i decided to join and post my issue here. I have setup Windows server 2008 and two workstations with windows xp in a VMware enviroment. The server is running AD, GP and DNS. Both workstations are members
of the domain and can ping / communicate with each other and outside the network. The problem is group policy objects are not applying to either of the workstations. At first i was getting errors when updateing however after trying everything no errors now
come up in computer managment however the policys are not applying, in even viewer after a "gpupdate /force" it says the group policy has applyed but does not prompt to reboot or logout like corporate enviroments.
Things i have checked / done:
- Made sure both workstations are only pointing to the AD server for DNS
- Disabled all firewalls
- removed and rejoint to domains number of times
- installed new workstation to domain to test (same issue)
I have been trying to fix this for like 2 weeks now every night after work and its driveing me mad. If anycan can help i would be gratefull.

Are you doing this wiht .net somehow? Or is this just a GPO issue? Its possible another GPO is winning out over yours. On the client computer you can run rsop.msc from the run command. This will generate a report on GPOs applied to the system. You will get
a windows that looks much like your local policy editor but it will show the policies were applied to those areas.
If you have access to the AD server, go under Group Policy Results you generate a report from there as well. It will have a summary tab that can make it easier to drill down to specific areas to see what policies were applied and what changes were made.
