because i also use SO, my biggest objection to a voting system is there is often no apparent correlation to the value of the questions and replies that get down voted ... it's often perplexinng as to who hit and ran with a down vote, as
well as why ...
... there is zero obligation of the down voter (or up voter) to leave a constructive comment as to her/his reason for the up vote or down vote.
-- many new members here at forums.asp.net ask terrible questions ... rather that down voting such questions, it's far better imho to help new members learn to ask better questions
with SO, at least for me, i sometimes feel overwhelmed by hit and run, hide behide an anomonous identity mentality; imho, i'd hate to see forums.asp.net deteriorate to the same wild, wild west attacks that do occur as
SO.
{plesae do not get me wrong, Jeff Atwoodet al have done a fantasitc job with
SO; they have also done a wonderful service to ASP.NET MVC by choosing that framework in it's
alpha state to build SO. SO is wonderful, however, it helps to have a very thick skin.}

Voting system could feel certain posts like crap and the users may feel stupid after their reply get downgrade. Also, some "Google links" reply may get most votes and the people who are Googling and providing tons of links will get motivated unnecessarly.
I don't think it's fair.
For the voting on Origianl thread, we already have a rating system, so I don't think voting is really necessary.
Also, I personally think, this site should not do what others do. For the voting system, we have StackOverFlow and this site is different than that.
@gerry - I know this is a tad older thread, but I wanted to chime in and say that my sentiments on SO and this site are 100% in line with yours. I have struggled greatly ahering to the culture (or should I say 'Cult') that exists on SO or probably more specifically
metaStackOverflow: (for 1 example look at me get beat up here http://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/126945/should-so-have-a-prequalification-process-for-membership-to-weed-out-the-noise)
The point of that post was to say if they want SO so different, then stand up and be more explicit about it.
I think it is a huge culture shock for those of us here on the ASP.NET forums and the sense of community and helping spirit when going to SO and having your a$$ kicked around. And they state it's for the purpose of making this euphoria of a forum, blah,
blah, blah...
As for this forum (forums.asp.net), the community and the way NeuDesic have evolved this site is spot on IMO. I think we do not need to be some step child or spawn off of the design of SO, and be unique and great for what we already are.
I just hope involvement from the ASP.NET community stays strong here and this forum remains ever present.
On a bit of a tangent -> my only concern is the SEO/results for this site seems to have slid a tad vs. Stack Overflow in the last 2-3 years. I remember Google being the easiest way to search for content here a few years back as the 1st 1-4 Google results
were from forums.asp.net results. I would search for a lot of my own posts that way. However I have noticed in the last few years that this site's results are getting lower and lower when doing Google searches. I have no real 'proof' to back that up, but only
by almost daily observations when doing Google searches.
Regardless, I read your post here (http://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/45858/imnsho-the-inmates-are-running-the-asylum-an-appeal-process-is-required)
and could not agree with you more (I gave several upvotes to you as well showing my agreement with your statements - if you read some of my stuff over there it's a lot of the same sentiment). There is just a sense of community here and on the MSDN forums that
just can't be beat. It seems that SO and Programmers have a magnent attracting the cynical devs of our (ASP.NET) and all software communities and they are not afraid to show who "who's who" on that site. I have been contemplating blogging about some of this
and will post back with a link if I ever do.
sometimes i forget to warn people to whom i suggest SO that they may need to wear a hazmat suit to SO unless they have thick skin.
for me, SO is still worthwhile ... it's # 1 contributor is likely still Jon Skeet ... many good and kind people are there too ... sometimes Jeff Atwood will answer too ... nevertheless, even though i may have complaints here at forums.asp.net, my personal
experience leads me to expect that most of the time í prefer forums.asp.net.
also, my questions, imho, are far more likely to be answered here at forums.asp.net.
i would rather have the sometimes (imho) wrong forums.asp.net officially selected volunteer moderators than the anybody with enough points can be a moderator situation at SO.
BTW, thank you for the SO upvotes.
Note: i would say "cult" within a "culture" at SO ... the "cult" unfortunately happens to be imho a very visible voracious minority ... do not feed those SO gremlins at any time of day (apology to Joe Dante).
MORE INFORMATION
i would not worry about the SEO ... just add this to your Google searches:
site:forums.asp.net atconwary

P.S.: anybody can be nasty some of the time, including me, especially if i'm frustrated with some O.P. and stressed out too ... fortunately, a forums.asp.net moderator will usually delete my nasty replies and i'll discover that i am quite capable of reposting
a nice and useful version of the same reply; OTOH, at SO even first degree murder "may" be possible.
B-) have a great day!

This will be cool if this forum add the functionality of Up and Down vote a post? Similar what is presant in stackoverflow.com?

-- my vote is absolutely against having a SO-like voting system, FWIW.
Let's assume than NeuDesic did implement a voting system ... a voting system might not sustain itself:

I pretty much agree with Gerry, here.
Idea is basically good. But have bad points too.
Voting system could feel certain posts like crap and the users may feel stupid after their reply get downgrade. Also, some "Google links" reply may get most votes and the people who are Googling and providing tons of links will get motivated unnecessarly. I don't think it's fair.
