I just got done figuring out a problem where we had set the IIS session to 35 minutes but we were getting ViewState errors anyway. It turns out that the session object has it's own Timeout value defaulting to 20 minutes. I incorrectly thought it would take
the value from IIS. Simply adding one line to the web config solved this problem but what is the difference? Why have an IIS setting if it's going to be ignored? My theory although I haven't found supporting MSDN docs yet is that when the Mode = InProc it
uses the Timeout value of the ASP .NET application object. Mode = Server then it uses IIS. Is this correct or have I dumb lucked into a fixed for the problem?
