I would like to process a bunch of data when a user logs into my application. I would like to process this in the background while they are still able to browser the website freely, similar to how Mint.com gathhers transactions from your financial account
while you are free to browse the website.
Could someone please help me with the correct way to build a asynchronouse method/class that i can run when the user logs in. What is the correct way to do this and is there any example code i can take a look at?
Also i would like the proces to "report" to the UI on its progress, so any help on how to achieve this would be great.

You can do it in several diffrent ways. one way is the Async page implementations of ASP.Net. process the page part asychronously and you can load diffrent parts at diffrent intervals. start a background process of the time consuming task as soon as the
page loads. now inside the page keep a container which regularly checks if that task is complete or not. if its complete then load it onto your page.
