We have a webfarm with 6 web servers that connect to a single session state sever on an Active / passive cluster. We have several applications on the webservers that
are replicated between all six servers. The problem we run in every once in a while ( once or twice a month) on the State server we receive the following error. ("
The state server has closed an expired TCP/IP connection. The IP address of the client is (webserver4.) The expired Read operation began at x ") when this happens it will kill all connections coming from webserver4 for about 10 mins and not that
one expired connection, which affects all of our applications on webserver4.
The error that reads on the web server is below but I know that the state service is running because the other 5 servers is not having any issues.
"Unable to make the session state request to the session state server. Please ensure that the ASP.NET State service is started and that the client and server ports
are the same. If the server is on a remote machine, please ensure that it accepts remote requests by checking the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MA"
I have reviewed everything I can on Session state but cant understand why it terminates all connections on that server when the other servers are fine. I do know that
our applications are producing alot of connections and I ran counters and the sessions active was around 17500. We are thinking of adding another state server and redirecting some of the apps to one or the other.
Any one have any suggestions on why this intermittent expired tcp/ip connection happens ( once or twice a month). Anything to prevent this from happening or at least
terminating the one connection that expires and not all connections coming from that webserver. BTW this is sporadic the next time it happens it could be on webserver3 or 2 not always the same web server.

It seems the state service server has more load and that is why the issue is sporadic and on a random web server. The reason for all the connections from a web server failing for 10 mins could be the ASP.NET state service server wantedly rejects the requests
from a webserver(with TCP/IP connection issue) for some time
