I have sql 2005 express along with management studio 2005 and vs2008 professional. I also installed vs2010 ultimate with sql 2008 express edition and service pack 1 of sql server that came along with the setup. As i did not have management studio 2008, i
Now when i try to install, i get the compatibility warning, which i ignore and click run. Then i choose "add features to existing installation" and select sql 2008 express instance, but in the next screen management components are disabled and i can't select
it. So i tried to go back and select new sql server installation hoping that it will install one. But now it went to the management studio componenets and still it was grayed out. How should I go about this? Should I first uninstall the sql 2008 express that
is running with service pack 1 and then try afresh?

First of all, always install SQL Server first then Visual studio as Visual studio itself has it's inbuilt SQL Server Express ,
so sometimes it creates conflict between paths.
Anyway, As your SQL Server express is already running SP1 so that's why SSMS may be unable to find the proper SQL Server 2008 Express Configuration wizard.
