Is the httphandler for aspx pages asynchronous? I'm currently working on a project where aspx pages are used to return XML based on QSP where database may be accessed but not sure if this is best way or if a separate asynchronous handler should be used.

Thanks for the link. If I'm reading it correctly then an aspx page is a sychronous request and the thread will block until the request is returned (on top of the overhead of all the aspx stuff that happens that's not required). The better approach would

An http-handler is not always the best approach, even in your case: with an aspx page you can use markup syntax, which might be a much greater advantage in terms of maintainability than the little loss in performances re a simple handler. On the other hand,
I do not see any significant gain you might have in making the handler (or the page) asynchronous.
