I'm at a loss as to what is causing this, and whether or not I'm posting in the correct forum. I'm creating word 03 files (.doc) on the server, saving them to a shared directory, then linking the user to the file via the intranet (ie \\server\directory\file.doc).
Using word 2007 or prior, and IE 8 or prior, it works just fine. With the current setup using 2010 works with a single file, but when multiple files are opened at once, Word reacts in a somewhat random manner.
Using 3 files, it sometimes opens 1 or 2, sometimes opens all 3 but only 1 is accessible, the others show up in a completely blank window (only title bar). Sometimes IE will timeout or give the no network page when loading the files.
document. However, Word 2010 is not doing this, it's erractically opening either 1 or 2 files, or just one, but with blank windows for the other 2.
Any ideas would be great.
We've tried looking through the settings, and we can't find anything that looks like it might help at all. We've tried IE opening in separate tabs or windows.

Microsoft recommends a 3rd party tool for that kind of work.

The instance of word is on the client machine on the intranet. It's a standard client server setup, except that it doesn't not have an internet component. That article talks about running office on the server side, which is not the case here.
We are using Aspose on the server side to generate the document based off a template. The issues arises on the client, attempting to open the files.

I understand now.
It might be related to this issue:
Can you open the documents with just Word2010...sans web browser? If the problem is still there, then it's not really an Asp.Net issue but a Word2010 issue.

Continuing to try different settings combinations, I'm think it may be an issue with Word directly, and not with ASP or IE. The only work around solution I've been able to find is to turn the download prompt back on ("Open, Save, Cancel"). Forcing the user
to make a choice for each file being opened. I did try the registry change as posted, but to no luck. The files are capable of being opened in rapid succession from the OS directly.

I agree, when you consider older versions of Word worked, it implies the creation part is working.

After investigating further, and following advice given from other forums, this has been determined to be a Word 2010 issue, and we cannot find a proper resolution to it.
by which it worked.
Any ideas at all as to how to get word to do this, whether changing our server code, our client code, or making modifications to Word, we're open to trying almost anything right now.
We did have one solution that works, but isn't feasible. We brought up the dialog box that asks, "Open, Save, Cancel" for .doc and .docx files, and it works just fine, though the user is gonna have to click "Open" on EVERY single document. With this being
a dynamic document system, it could be sending out any number of documents, which would get tiring for the user.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated...
