I'm looking for a text editor that has .doc support. Example, i have a already existing .doc file and i want to load it into my component, edit it and then save the changes (again as a .doc file).
As anyone here looked for the same thing?
I came across this
http://www.textcontrol.com/en_US/products/dotnetserver/overview/ and it seems a good component, has anyone used it? Is it appropriate for what i described above?

I have heard of this component and the developers I used to work with swore by it. They said it was pretty easy to use, very intuitive and the support was good so I say give it a try IMHO :)

Do you think it is capable of doing what i need? Importing .doc, editing and then saving again in .doc (without any html conversion in the middle).
Btw, do you have any idea on how to deploy the trial? I am used to get components with dll's, and other files, and the trial i got there is a .exe
What do i do in this case?
Thanks in advance,

In the case of it being an .exe file, you'll have to install it to your development machine.

From what I read and heard, the component should be able to do the editing the way you are looking to have it do. I'm going to grab their trialware version to see if it lives up to the legend of what I've heard about it.

Ok, the demo shows me that it actually loads its own version of MS Word so this in essence is a desktop app deployed from the web as an ActiveX package as such. Keep in mind, this looks to be more designed for classic asp as opposed to asp.net. They may
very well have a .net library available.

They do indeed have a TX Text Control .NET Server appears to be exactly what you want. For clarity I contacted the developers to see if it does what I'm thinking or not.

Thanks. Tonight i'll try to deploy the trial and i'll let you know.
Let me know on what the developers say.

I've tried to deploy the trial version i got and all i really got was this. Could anyone give me any help on what i may be doing wrong?
I installed the .exe, then on VS simply added a component to a page.

The developers said if you run into strange problems like what you are seeing to contact them.
Incidentally, what you are looking for is TX Text Control .NET Server.

Have you tested it yourself?
How did you do it?
Jan 14, 2011 02:58 PM|bbcompent1|LINK
Honestly, I haven't tried it myself but I will when I get back into my office on Tuesday. I'll let you know how to set that up after I try it. I'm thinking it would be install it and then that control should appear in VS2010.
Jan 14, 2011 03:02 PM|heldersantos.moreira|LINK
Yep, i did exactly that. Installed it, the control appeared indeed on VS, but when i add it to my page and run, the result i get was the image on my post a while back.
I'm not sure if i'm missing something.

The one that you have a link to is a windows forms control, not an asp.net control which could be the problem. Contact their support team for the link to the right application. :)

I could be wrong but I think the one you want is this: http://www.textcontrol.com/en_US/products/dotnetserver/overview/

This is the right one, correct? TX Text Control .NET Server for Windows Forms.
The one i'm using is the trial version of this.
Thanks for all your help :)

Well I got the exact same thing as you did - just like that screen. I would recommend contacting their developers since it looks like what they say it will do doesn't work.

I contacted the developers and asked for their help.
Thanks for all your help too.

Well, for anyone that experiences the same problem.
The image i posted was actually the document viewer, and not the editor itself and that was why it was looking so strange.
