Here is my setup:
Brand new Dell Latitude E6510 running 64-bit Windows 7 Professional. Installed Visual Studio 2010 Pro and enabled IIS 7 in Windows - although *without* IIS 6 Metabase Compatability.
My intent is to use this dev box to convert a .NET 3.5 app (developed against IIS 5.x on XP Pro; run against IIS 6.0 in production) to .NET 4.0 running on IIS 7.5 (Windows Server 2008). I'm wanting to get away from IIS 6.0 completely - so I don't want to
even enable IIS 6 Metabase... Compatability mode in either my dev or production environments.
So to test my new dev box I created a new ASP.NET Web Forms app - for "hello world purposes." It started just fine, but of course was running against the built-in development server. I switched the project to use IIS, then clicked the button to create the
new Virtual directory in IIS - and got this message:
"Unable to create the virtual directory. To access local IIS Web sites you must install the following IIS components: IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatibility."
My question: Is it possible to DEV using Visual Studio 2010 with IIS 7.x without being in IIS 6 Compatibility mode? I would think and hope so - as I want to dev against IIS as it will be configured in production. If it is possible, what do I need to do?
I failed to find the answer after a bunch of searching and browsing the Web.
Thanks in advance.
