I have a weird design. I have page called A, it has control called C1 which has a control called C1-1 which has a control called C-1-1-1. C-1-1-1 is inside a modal popup extender. Whenever their is a postback, the C-1-1-1 's Pre_Render is called twice, first
with the correct values and parameters which seem right. And second with all values seemingly reset (sounds like a new object construction). The stack trace isnt helpful. Any idea what could be causing it or what should I check ?

That's the nature of the beast.
That's why there are sub or void overrides.
In the lifecycle, pre-render will always be called, even on post back. Your control has the wrong structure, that does not fully cater to the page lifecycle.
Without seeing the structure, I can't pinpoint it for you. I'm guessing you created the control code with createchildcontrols, instead of onInit.

Sorry for making it complicated. Here is the image of our controls' architecture. Please tell me what do you think ?
