I have a requirement related to subdomains. Here are the details.
I am using .NET 4.0, IIS7, ASP.NET 4.0. I have an web application hosted as "mycompany.com". I have some clients, say client1, register at my site. I want to give him a
URL like http://client1.mycompany.com. Similarly for client2 URL will be
http://mycompay.com has provision to allow new clients to register at my site. Any new client should able to view his area by using URL
This is very similar to Microsoft's spaces.live.com; Each individual having hotmail/live ID can access his spaces. Ex:

As I know, you must register those names into the DNS. Then you can apply url rewriting...

I do something very similar on my site. I basically parse the subdomain out and use that as a User ID, then I ask for a password.
If the user goes to www.mysite.com, then I present a user ID in addition to the password field.
For your DNS, you need to add a wildcard "A" record (i.e. a "*" as the "A" record).
Now, I do have a few reserved "A" records that are not available as a user ID, such as "www", "m" (for mobile), "mail", and "admin".
