I have noticed on a number of occassions that when I make a post on these forums and then come back to that post several days later or more likely over the weekend my post has automatically been set to resolved and several replies marked as the answer.
Whilst I appreciate that moderators may feel it necessary to mark replied topics as resolved to give the appearance that every question gets an answer it is extremely infuriating, especially when some of the replies that are marked as the answer are complety
wrong or regard something related but not at all correct for my current question.
If a thread doesn't get a response from the OP say within a fortnight then it is fair to say that either the OP has fixed the issue or they have simply taken a reply as the answer and decided not to mark the topic as resolved but it seems to be that if the
OP doesn't reply in a couple of days then this happens.
Considering that posts are moderated before they arrive on this site which can take anything from a couple of minutes to several hours, OPs are not expecting a quick answer and may need to go off and test any replies before deciding whether one of their
responses was indeed the answer.
Testing takes time, so please give the OP at least a fortnight before auto-resolving threads. It doesn't help the OP, it doesn't do others any good if they too have the same problem and are provided with a bad answer as the resolving one and it certainly
does not do credit to the site.

MSFT's are famous for marking their own posts as answers as they post. Many people have complained about this in the past including myself.

Moderators do not generally mark posts as answer, and have no interest in keeping answer counts high. We are volunteers who are more interested in providing people with correct answers to help them.
If you find that your thread has been marked as resolved incorrectly, please reset the incorrect answers to Mark As Not Answer, and provide more information as to what you are still struggling with, and why the marked answer is not helpful.
As Eric says, there is another team whose job is to attempt to resolve all unresolved threads after a few days of inactivity.

Apologies to the moderators then, but perhaps the MSFTs should have their abilities restricted in this regard since it seems more of an abuse of the site.
For example I recently posted up a question to find an answer had been selected which was just the C# equivelant of the code I had already displayed in VB in my original post.

The system works like this:
The OP (original poster) always has priority. Unless they obviously mark the wrong post as an answer, their decision has precedence.
If after 5-8 days, a thread is still unresolved, the MSFTs look to see if there is a potential answer in one of the responses or supply their own response. In most cases, after 5-8 days, the OP has lost interest in the thread and has moved on.
The OP can always go back and remove what they feel are innappropriate answer marks.
The system isn't perfect but it's simple and works more than 99 percent of the time (my estimate).

It is a known fact that MSFTs have been known to mark it as resolved within hours of the OP posting the thread. So the system can be flawed. :) He had the same discussion over 3 years ago

48 Hours doesn't seem nearly enough, again taking into account weekends, time zone differences and testing I would at least give it a week and as A1en51 mentions, I have seen posts marked within hours. Maybe MSFTs should not be able to mark their own posts?
I can see this must be a recurring topic of complaint.
Guess I'll just have to put up with the annoyance but I feel its the site that suffers as a result.
