I have a bunch of background tasks that need to be performed at certain times/intervals. Clearly, a windows service is the perfect solution for a situation like this. However, my app is on a shared server at DiscountASP so I can't install a Windows service.
I just wanted to see if anyone has come up with any other creative solutions.

Thank you very much. This method is creative indeed. Like the author says, who would've thought that cache expiration could be used to simulate a windows service type operation. Great!

Without knowing what kind of tasks you need to do, what about a SQL package that is run?
