I have installed Windows 7 Professional and Visual Studio 2010 on a machine I was using VS2005 on with Windows XP. I am unable to publish to c:\inetpub\wwwroot. The files cannot be deleted in wwwroot or edited. I turned off read-only and am still unable
to edit anything in the root even when opening something in notepad. When publishing a site every file in the directory throws the following in VS. Any idea on how to get around this?
"Error deleting file 'what_is_a_puppymill.aspx'. Unable to delete default.aspx'. This function is not supported on this system."

I'm logged in as the Administrator on this machine. Is there a different kind of account I need to assigne my self to in Windows 7 so as to be recognized as as Administrator?

I'm logged in as the Administrator on this machine.
It is not enough to be logged as an Admin in Windows7
Right click explorer.exe/command prompt and select "run as administrator"

I went to Start and searched for explorer.exe. I then right clicked on it and clicked the setting you mentioned. I opened the web config in notepad but was still not able to save the changes to the file. I get 'Access is Denied".
I'm not sure if this sheds any light but I used the Windows 7 Easy Transfer tool when I installed Windows 7 and I believe that tool transfers the user settings. When I go to Control Pane --> User Accounts The word 'Administrator' is under my name, which
I am currently logged in under. In fact it is the only login on this machine.
The reason I need to do this at all is to add the httpHandler tag in my web.config since it changed from just handler in IIS 6.
I right clicked and took ownership of the wesite's folder but when saving in Notepad++ I get the message "Save Failed" Please check whether if this file is opened in another program" [sic]

I am still not able to delete files in the target directory when publishing:
Error deleting file 'what_is_a_puppymill.aspx'. Unable to delete 'default.aspx'. This function is not supported on this system.
Incidentally if anyone is wanting a good powertool (say to add 'Take Ownership' to the context menu) search for and download 'Ultimate Windows Tweaker'.
I also am unable to publish a new project to the wwwroot. I get this error:
Unable to add folder 'Scripts' to the Web site. Cannot create folder 'Scripts'. Access is denied

The solution for me was to run Visual Studio as administrator and when I saw that this worked to go in via my power tool and turn off those damned permissions.
