I'm wondering if it is possible to design one of the controls within a user control once that user control has been placed on a form. For example, I want a user control that contains a label at the top, a gridview in the middle and a dropdownlist at the
bottom. If I build this user control then place it on my web form, I then want to be able to change say the GridView format or add a column or databind on that instance of the usercontrol only. I know how to do this in WinForms but can I do it in an ASP.NET

Yes, you can do it.
You'll have to expose some properties for these purposes. Those properties might not be able to change the view or to be applied on your user control in the design mode, but will surely be applied when in run-mode.
Mark as answer, if it answers you..

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I was actually looking for a way to change the child controls in design mode not at run time. I have actually started creating a custom server control which inherits from gridview but I would prefer a user control with editable child control solution.
