Hi I am trying to update SQL 2008 to SQL 2008 R2 but it is asking me for my product key, which I don't know where its at. Is there a way to find it in the server, or something?

There's absolutely no way to find out the product key in server. The product key is written on the Cover of CD or DVD of the SQL Server. So if your copy of sql server is not pirated then you must have a cd or dvd of it. Check the cover. You will get it.

Thanks for the reply,
I actually found a utility that will retrieve the product key from within the registry incase you loose your disk. Obviously this would not work on hacked copy, hence it would be "hacked".

If there is no upgrade facility, you need to purchase seperately. What you have to pay for the upgrade.

I am trying to do the same thing...find the sql r2 key. I am wary of third party tools. Would you please tell me what tool you used?

I was trying to find the same "Product Key for MS SQL 2008 R2" however after some research I was able to find it under the following location in registry... Let me know if this helps ?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\100\BIDS\Setup

You can find out SQL Server 2008 product key by executing this SQL script:
EXEC xp_regread 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE','SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft
If this doesn't work, you can then use this
product key finder program.
