Dear All ,
I want to create a map control which I can drag & drop from the toolbox.
The control will have the follwing sub-controls:
1) Map Viewer Control which will display a raster or vector image size 800 * 600.
2) A dropdown control which will allow to select a provider for the map.
3) Common controls for operation on the map like zoom in, zoom out, pan, identify feature, find distance b/w 2 points, layer switcher etc.
How to create the map viewer control?
Will it be a Active X control or something else. The map control itself has to be web based i.e work with ASP.NET 2.0/3.5 and silverlight.
How to create controls mentioned in 3).
Thanks for ur replies.

The link u have given is useful indeed although I am yet to get into the details
I am looking for a similar Web custom control which can fetch maps from other sources
like mapserver,geoserver,MS Virtual Earth.
But these sources don't have a ready made API which can be converted
to web custom control.
Pls note that there are no Map viewer controls in the toolbox as of
VS 2008, although there is something called document Viewer.
So I need to create one. I think it will be better if it is a Web Custom Control
although it can also be an Active X control.
How to create it?
Pls provide some hints or links on creating viewer controls.
