General Motors lost already several trade marks (like Hummer) whereas Microsoft is not experiencing influence of the global crisis - feel the difference:)
But I have the same question - how can I remove ADs from my Blog at weblogs.asp.net?
As I see I can't select variant of design without ADs but some of other weblogs doesn't contain them - probably it is the question of reputation here and I should spend more than 1 (or 3) years with these advertising banners till I will be able remove them?

Its's not uncommon for there to be some sort of advertising to help offset the costs of a service such as blog hosting that you receive for free. The ads on this site and the blogs hosted here are what pays for all the costs associated with this site. The
costs of hosting, content creation, development, administration all add up.
I'd be surprised if we were able to turn off the ads as regular community bloggers. There's another group of bloggers here though (the Microsoft Bloggers). Since they are employed by the site owner, they may have different options.

Mike is correct, when the blogging doors were opened at weblogs.asp.net to a broader group of bloggers (Microsoft Community Bloggers) a few years ago, part of the condition was that ads would be present on the blog. Those who already had a blog on the site
are grandfathered out of the requirement.
