Ok. I am a bit embarassed to ask this...but here it goes.
I have not upgraded nor changed ANYthing. I have been working on the same computer and same build of Visual Studio 2005 for over a year now. Each time I rebuild my machine and re-install VS 2005 I get the error as follows:
"The project file <pathname>.csproj cannot be opened.
The project type is not supported by this installation."
I am very confused. I have tried the simple VS cash clears from the cammand prompt. All that does is clear out the unopened project.
Is there a Service Pack or some such tool that I need to install in order to open my project again?

Did one of your co-workers open and save the project with VS 2008?
You can compare the project file's current version with older versions using your source control system to see what changed (assuming you are using source control).
Worst case, start a new project and add all the files to it. Once it is working, put it under source control.

What type of project are you trying to open?

Thanks for the help. It was actually an issue with Service Pack version. I had installed SP1. Now everything seems to open fine. Thanks for the advise. It helped steer me in the correct direction.
thank you. I am going to mark yours as the answer.
