Ive recently got a new development machine with windows 7 64 bit. On loading up a website and opening default.aspx, the whole ide just freezes. Nothing responds, I have to shut it down from the task manager. This happens every time (ive tried it 4 times
The site was fine on my old machine (windows xp 32 bit) are there any compatibility issues with windows 7 64 bit and vs 2008 ?

check this seems to be something similar:
check whether the ie is a 64 bit version
may be the ie is 32 bit version C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer

its not actually when I try to run the web app so IE shouldnt be the problem (I use firefox anyway) , its within the IDE itself, I cant switch between code & design view, and after a few seconds the whole thing freezes.

I managed to solve the problem. I downloaded and installed office 2010 beta, the web authoring tools for office 2010 are not working properly with visual studio, they cause the html editor to freeze. Uninstalling visual studio then reinstalling it will
install the web authoring tool for office 2003
If you are using office 2007, just do a reinstall or repair of office 2007
visual studio now work ok
