I have been given the task of converting some ASP pages to ASP.NET which has gone smoothly. The database they currently use is Access and sits on server DB_Server. The new ASP.NET pages have gone into a new website on server ASPNET_Server.
When I run the new website through Visual Studio on my desktop (running XP SP3) it loads the information without any problems. When I browse to the website, however, it comes up with an 'Unspecified Error'. My connection string is as follows:
OleDbConnection olConn =
new OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=\\\\DB_Server\\shareddrive\\database\\staff.mdb");
If I remote into ASPNET_Server, open IIS, find the page and select Browse I get the same error.
Does anyone know why it will run okay through Visual Studio but not when I browse to the website? I thought permissions but tried giving the EVERYONE group full control but that didn't help. I tried adding Response.Write(Context.User.IDentity.Name);
to the page load, but when I ran it through Visual Studio it showed my login username: when I browse to the page it shows nothing. Is it possible that no credentials are being passed to the database?

You need to synchronise accounts across the two machines. If you can move the Access database on to the web server, all the better. I recommend App_Data as the best place for it.
