I want to offline the website before I start update. So to do that I simply put App_Offline.html in the root directory and it works nice. Now when I open my site it shows App_Offline.html. But while I replacing the dlls in bin directory and this time I refresh
the page I get "Runtime Error". So my question is that, is there any better way of doing this ?

try changing the default document in IIS to App_Offline.html, change it back to whatever.aspx after the update

AFAIR Its just a normal error with yellow background, saying turn off the custom error in web.config. When I update my site I will post it.

Have you reset IIS

In IIS Manager, right-click the site you want to start, stop, or pause; and click
Stop or at the command prompt, type iisreset /stop
Once you are done with the changes restart the IIS ;)

Its shared hosting. Very limited control on IIS.

i guess you can do that for your own application using the control panel.
There must be an option to stop/disable your site temporary! What host company are you using?

Well, there is an option. Suspend and Resume. And I remember that day I tried to suspend my site and it never turn resume. And after around 1 week it was back with a lot of things those were reset to default. So, I do not want to mess up with that thing
