I got a new laptop which has Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I copied some of my VS2008 projects (both asp.net and windows forms). But when I try to run in debug mode, I get this error: "Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging. The requested
name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found."
Most of these projects will build and run in release mode. If I try to attach the debugger to the process, I get the same error message as above.
I've googled, but not found a good explanation for this. Do I need to upgrade to Vista business? Or windows 7? Or is something else causing this problem?

Well i also got a new laptop 15 days back and it also has Vista Home Premium 64 bit
But my all previous projects are working fine and also debug mode is working
I have VS 2005 and 2008 installed both are working for me
I have Vista home Premium SP2 if you don't have SP2 try installing it

Thanks for the reply. I checked, and I already have SP2 installed.
But after further testing, I have discovered the debugging problem only happens with the network cable disconnected. I often take my laptop on trips and work on airplanes, in the car, etc. (Not while I'm driving, of course!). For this purpose, I've installed
SQL Server 2008 and have copies of my databases on my laptop.
But this is strange: I pug in my network cable. Run the project, debugging works. I disconnect the network cable, debugging STILL works. Then I reboot (with the network cable unplugged), and now, when I try debugging, I get "The requested name is valid,
but no data of the requested type was found."
I read a post here
http://www.mycsharpcorner.com/Post.aspx?postID=28 tha this error seems to be related to a network problem. But why would that matter when I'm working completely locally?

You may use
Visual Studio Debugger forum to ask debugger questions for more chance to be answered there.
