I need some help. I'm runmning VS 2008 with windows xp on a parallels VM. Works fine if I access the asp net dev server using local host in the VM but if I use the actual IP address either inside the VM or external I can't access it. I disabled all firewalls
and I'm pretty stuck..... any thoughts?

Not sure of your network settings but what if you tried the fully qualified DNS of your VM machine?
Open up a command prompt and type ipconfig <ENTER>
Take the "Connection-specific DNS Suffix" value and the VM machine name to make your fully qualified DNS so...
http://<MACHINE_NAME>.<Connection-specific DNS Suffix>:<PORT>/
The built in Dev server has it's own internal IP addressing and loopback this is why the IP address does not work.
So for example I have my samples web site can be accessed via the dev server:
If you don't have an internal DNS server you might be able to get away with just your computer name.
Also make sure that you have an actual aspx file in the url since there is no "default file" setting for the dev server as well.
