I have been given the task of developing an inter-departmental newsletter tool. I was provided with an authentication script from the IT department. I had noticed it doesn't appear that the passwords are encrypted before they are binded (ldap).
I am a complete Active Directory noob...and also appologize if this is the incorrect forum. But I am not sure what to do at this point. I emailed IT about my concern, and they suggested that I maintain my own username/password combos for my users.
If need be, I can provide the script they gave me tomorrow (it's on my desk at work). Just to clarify, what I want to know, is are my user's passwords being transmitted in plain text? And if so, is there a way for me to 'encrypt' them.

When you say newsletter tool, will this be web based or windows?
If it's web you can use the admembership provider. Add this to your web config:
System.Web, Version=2.0.3600.0, Culture=neutral,
