I need some help getting my database ability to work in my Visual Web Developer Express 2008. I have a website started and an App_Data folder, but when I try to add an 'SQL Server Database' in the App_Data folder I get the following error:
"Connections to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=49251"
I am using Vista Home Premium 64-bit.
I have SQL Server 2008 installed on my system. Am I not able to use the 2008 version? Please help me figure this out. Also, please be very descriptive. I am new to computer programming and stuff. This is my first class in college and I don't know very much
at all. I want to have this work on my personal computer so that I can learn this stuff better.
Error VWDE 2008

Is SQL Server started and can you access it? Have you downloaded the SQL Management Studio Express? Can you access SQL through that?
There are idiosyncracies with trying to use VWD to manage SQL. Management Studio Express is a better method.

I'm having the same problem.
I have VS 2008 and SQL Server 2008 running on Win7 RC1 32bit. I can connect to a database by using the SqlDataSource from the toolbox, but when I try to add a new SQL Database item to App_Data, I get the same error as roastr.
