I've been trying to figure this out for a couple of days now and after many google searches and looking in here, I couldn't find a solution so it's time to ask for help.
I am using Visual Studio 2005 on XP Professional and it works fine when I test it. I also copied it to a test webserver with IIS 6.0 and it works fine on that system also.
My production server is also a Windows 2003 IIS 6.0 server (like the test one) but I keep getting this error message. I have uninstalled the Ajax extensions and re-installed. I have also installed .net 3.5 (since it is supposed to include the ajax extensions).
Can someone point me in the right direction as to what might be the problem on the production server? It is just frustrating that it works fine on the other 2 systems but not on the production server, so I assume it has something to do with the server and
not the coding.
Like I said, I re-installed the ajax extensions from this site and even upgraded to framework 3.5 on the production server but still receive the ajaxcontroltookit is undefined.

Download the ajax control toolkit from http://ajaxcontroltoolkit.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=27326 and install... You will need to copy few dlls including ajaxcontroltoolkit.dll from local machine to your application server /bin

Thank for the post but that download is for the 3.5 version. I am using asp.net 2.0 for the website. I installed the 3.5 framework on the server but am still using the 2.0 for this website. (I did the same for the test server that works). I tried re-downloading
the 2.0 version of the toolkit from
but still does not work.
OK, I have copied the dll file that I downloaded from above to the test server and now it doesn't work either. So the error must be in the dll file somewhere. It still works on my XP Visual Studio machine. Even if I copy the dll file from the bin directory
of my XP machine that works, it doesn't work on the test server or the production now.
Any other suggestions?

It must have something to do with the server. I have other website on the same server that worked find before and now none of the ajax extenders work on any of the websites. I am at a loss as to what is going on. Maybe it is a security update that was installed
on the server somehow messed up the ajaxcontoltoolkit??
I'll see what I can find but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly, you'd better download a sample
here. It should work on .NET Framework 2.0. If ASP.NET Ajax Extension v1.0 is not installed, please install it first. You can get the install file
here. (ASP.NET AJAX Extension for .NET Framework 3.5 is integrated into .NET Framework 3.5).
If it works, please compare it with your sample. Especially, the web.config part.
If all these cannot figure out your problem, please download the version of .NET Framework 2.0
here (the version 1.0.20229 with source code). Before use it, please recompile it first. The installation steps, please follow the first two video tutorials
If you are using .NET Framework 2.0, please compare your sample's web.config with the downloaded sample. Otherwise, if you are using .NET Framework 3.5, please compare it with the downloaded sample either.
2008-02-29 release of the AJAX Control Toolkit targets the official release of .NET Framework 3.5 and Visual Studio 2008.
You can also download the Toolkit for .NET Framework 2.0, ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 and Visual Studio 2005.
2009-05-13 release of the AJAX Control Toolkit targets the official release of .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and Visual Studio 2008 SP1.
