Newbie question: Do any hosts offer VPS free trial? No strings attached?
I wanted to get a free trial at UltimaHosts but they don't provide this anymore. They could offer me a 30 day Reseller Account but I really need a VPS for my hosting biz. Basically I want to test out the VPS and make sure all my apps run on it before paying
setup / monthly fees.

Most VPS ASP.NET Hosting providers have 30 day money back guarantee, so you could cancel the account if you are not
happy with the service.

I'm not keen on paying money for a trial so I signed up with
Ultimahosts.net for their free trial. After having a talk with them they said they would make the free VPS trial available after the Reseller hosting trial. Once they get to know you it seems they are very flexible :)
I'll let you know how I go!

How long was the VPS trial period that Ultimahosts allocated to you? I found this company provide 3 months free VPS hosting at
http://www.serverchoice.com/vps_free_trial so you can try, configure and test drive your website before you going to paid on monthly fees.

Thanks Roy. I don't think that's a free trial however. Looks more like 'get 3 months free when you sign up' type of bait and switch. They also look like they are in the UK. Ultima Hosts actually upgraded me to a VPS now. I haven't paid a cent etc which
is what I wanted. So far so good. I also joined their new affiliate program and they actually gave me $25!

Read more about Ultima at this forum and think twice. They are half dead after their directors conflict. They split up the company and now the parts are trying to survive. Of course they are flexible now, they need every single customer... but the main question
is: are you ready to deal with them?
I discussed this with them on live chat and basically they said that Ultima Hosts USA is only a small part of their operations (around 5%). So basically they were saying they don't need clients and actually went through a stage of moving some clients on.
As Ultima sales said:
'This is probably where some of the reviews came from as those former clients who were used to $100 per year hosting were confronted with paying more or moving on. Guess they got used to great service at low cost. We did give them 6 months notice of these
changes. Still it seemed to come to result in a shock even after 5 emails.'
From my chat with them it sounded more like they were looking for more of a partnership type of relationship. More B2B rather than selling to the end user. Suits me fine :). There past clients will probably be mine soon anyway :P.

I use MaximumASP. They have an Hyper-V based vps solution, and its really, really good. They offer a 30 days free trial with no string attached. Even more, reading their terms of services, it states that once you start paying, you can cancel at -any- time
for any reason, and you your final bill is prorated to the amount of days you used (so if you cancel after a 3 months and 3 days, you pay for 3 months and 3 days, not 4 months).
They offer server 2003 and 2008, 32 and 64 bit. I haven't used any other VPS provider so I would not be able to compare, but they do pretty much anything I ask, including setting up PTS record (reverse dns ) for free within a few minutes of me asking for
it (during my free trial period, no less!).
They're customer and technical support is also pretty much to a legendary level and they'll help you with anything realistically possible.
