I just set up a virtual PC on my computer, with Win XP Pro SP3, IE 8, and VS 2008 SP1. However, none of my ASP.Net web pages will work on the virtual PC. They work on the host. I get a HTTP 500 error in the browser. HTML pages work.

In the virtual PC IE , you may need to uncheck the Show Friendly Error Messages in tools>options.
giving an idea, I never used a virtual pc

Did that. The message tells me to refer to the "event log" for more detail information, and to contact the server administrator for assistance.
As for Virtual PC, it works the same as a real PC. The operating system and software doesn't know the difference.
Its as if I had done the following to a brand new PC out of the box:
Formatted the hard drive, installed windows XP, ran all the updates, installed Visual Studio and all its updates (along with a few other things), copied all my working web pages from the old computer to the new, and had set up the web page in IIS.
If I try to run the web page in VS, it gives the same error, except it's in a popup window instead of the browser.

In the event viewer, under the system tab: Event ID 36
The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC'. The error was 'The specified metadata was not found.'.
What does that mean?

Fixed it. I just needed to uninstall and reinstall IIS and ASP.NET.
