By any chance, is it possible to use NNTP to POST?
I think it's possible to use NNTP to follow a forum (although
you do get every message of that forum AFAIK (not
necessarily a bad thing).
NNTP is much cleaner (I use it via Outlook Express).
I never accidentally lose messages that I'm composing
in OE ... OE never experiences the same slowness
problems that sometimes pervade forums.asp.net,
OE uses the standard Office spell checkers, et cetera.

NNTP is the Internet newsgroup protocol.
It's similar to mailing lists in the POP/SMTP world.
With NNTP, you set up an account in a program like Outlook Express or Windows Mail
that supports News (as in newsgroups, not like Fox broadcast news).
NNTP is highly configurable. For example, you can say things like "headers only".
forums.asp.net would be the umbrella. From under that umbrella,
you subscribe only to the specific forums that interest you.
When you see a header that interests you,if you are downloading only headers,
when you open the NNTP message, the body will be pulled down to your
computer. You can compose NNTP messages off line and then load them
the next time you connect. It does not matter if forums.asp.net is slow for
users accessing it with a browser interface ~~ they wait and get frustrated
while you simply send and do not worry about it.
NNTP is also easier to support than browsers. It tends to be handled
much better. One is always making compromises to get their
pages looking right in IE7, Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Opera, et cetera.
If you have multiple browsers, look at http://veganoccasions.com.
It's my wife's recipe site. You will immediately notice differences
between IE7 and other browsers. Nikhil Kothari is the brilliant creator
of Script# ~~ see http://forums.asp.net/p/1393485/2987124.aspx ~~ yet
his link http://projects.nikhilk.net/ScriptSharp/ is broken in IE7 yet
works in other browsers.
Browser based forums are silly when you compare their performance
to NNTP based forums. They are silly because they are pathetically
slow in comparison. They have nice features like avatars but look
how many people at forums.asp.net simply use the "shadow man"
silhouette for their avatar.
As for your particular problem with Opera, if your not using the latest
version of Opera, you could try a different version. If you are then
your best solution is to use a different browser for communication
with forums.asp.net. Probably not the news you wanted to hear.
One last thing, you could report the problem to the people who
support Opera. Problem is that if there is a UI problem, that problem
is frequently because Microsoft is the one that is not standards compliant.
Sorry to be a bearer of bad news. You could try to deinstall / reinstall Opera.
Don't know. Sorry.
