Ready all posts I could get my hands on but still never got e-mail to work from my site(s)
Tried the code below and also with a user and password but just get the standard error message that e-mail was not sent.
Am I right in thinking this is the only code that needs setting up to get e-mail working?
Do I need user and password details?
Are there known problems with this and or hosts, I am using
www.webhost4life.com always been pretty good.

For me it works when i only set the host attribute. The host need to be the outgoing mailserver for your host. So if you have the correct host trying removing the other 2 attributes.

I found this and it looks like you should have a email address and password specified.
And try changing the port to 366 if 25 does not work.
Try 25 first though.

Now added user details and a password but still no good.
Think from the articles need to speak to ISP.
Can you confirm your SMTP code, is this the only area I need to update or are there other areas aswell.
What question would you advise I ask ISP, "are you blocking SMTP use?"

Had some feedback below from webhost4life, did you change your ShowAd.aspx.vb ?
Sorry for my mistake, because you are using web application to send script email. So there is nothing to do with your local ISP. Your issue is due to your script "ShowAd.aspx.vb", which does not send smtp authentication emails. You just define mail login
information in your web.config, but you do not use them during sending email. Please modify your script to send authentication emails. Thanks.

Switched off custom errors mode, but still can't see the true error problem for my e-mail.
Any ideas to remove the polite text message to see real issue, tried deleting but this just crashes whole showad.aspx
<asp:Panel ID="EmailNotSentPanel" Runat="server" Visible="False" EnableViewState="False">
<p class="notice" style="text-align: center; font-weight:bold;">
<span>The email was not sent. Contact the system administrator for further details.</span></p>

Here's a funny thing, feedack below is correct from host below,
I checked the log from the smtp server, the smtp setting in the web.config has no problem at all.The real issue is the senderaddress,please replace the senderaddress "email@example.com" to "firstname.lastname@example.org" and give another try.
AND IT WORKS?
But I do not want to sender address to be stuck as just

I gave up with the "send ad as email" "function". (Function in quotes since it never worked !).
For a test, try seeing if it works with email addresses from hotmail.com etc. That was the problem for me... the hosting service was blocking it somehow
For the "respond to ad" my site always sends the email as if it is from
classifieds@mysitename........ I hard coded that in on the "showad.aspx" page. There is a good 'fix' here on the forum so you don't have to hard-code it. Most of my hair-pulling was because the host refused to send emails with hotmail, aol,
yahoo, gmail etc etc etc address as the 'sender' So I had actually 'fixed' my email function many times and it never worked because I was using my hotmail address as a test !
Another thing is that my site users actually LIKE seeing that the email is from
classifieds@mysitename....... so they recognize it as a response to their ad. The "original way" (which never worked for me) would require the ad posters to really read the subject and stuff.... this way they just
add mysitename........ to their 'safe' list in their email service.

Very interesting, I tested my site www.plantup.com.au and seems that send ad as email works if I make sure I use from
email@example.com as per web.config. However respond to ad does not work at all, even with
Below is my hosts response;
The problem you confront is actually related to the smtp server setting,for most of the service provider today. It's a common sense to require you use the smtp authentication to prevent spam.And for us, the "mail.yourdomain.com" also ask the senderaddress
must be exactly the same with the username you used in the smtp authentication. We do this in order to block all the email spoof. However, it won't check the smtp authentication while the communication is during the internal domain. So you could send emails
to plantup.com.au just without any smtp authentication. That's why you could do it successfully with the "firstname.lastname@example.org" .
Please feel convenient to contact us if you need any help ,thanks
I will take your advice, do you know how to lock in my
email@example.com e-mail into respond to ad and email ad as fixed?

What does not make sense is, respond to ad only works when used directly after I use send ad as email. Again, only if
firstname.lastname@example.org is used as from address.

Still I am facing the same email issue. If the email is sent from the same domain email address then the email is sent sucessfully. (example) my domain name is
www.DubaiOnlineClassifieds.com. If some one send emails to
email@example.com from contact us form then the email is delievered sucessfully. If i am sending emails from the site to some other email address like
firstname.lastname@example.org then the email is not delivered. BECAUSE OF THIS I COULD NOT USE THE "FORWARD IT TO FRIEND", "PASSWORD RECOVERY"...functionalities.
If some has faced similar issues please respond to this post and help me out to fix the issue.
