Basically what I am trying to implement is an internal search for my site hosted on Network Solutions (shared hosting plan). I have tried UltimateSearch and Zoom Search but both require me to give 'full permissions' to certain directories for log and index
files and such. I get Security Exception error with UltimateSearch and file permission error with Zoom Search. I am assuming that both of these error are security issue with the host
I am bugging Network Solutions to try and change the permissions on these directories to make my life easier. Is Network Solutions just being tight with their hosting?? So I guess I have a couple of questions...
Does anybody know of some Windows hosting providers that will let you give full permission to certain directories?? Will any?? From what I understand, most of these host operate at medium trust level. This would mean that other people on the shared host
would not be able to access my files anyways. Why would giving permission be a security issue?? I read a good article about how to badger your host if they will not cooperate here....
So lets say Network Solutions doesn't want to budge. I have looked into the option of Virtual Private Servers. From my understanding I would have full access to the root directory. That meaning I could give file permissions and get these search options
working. But, I did notice that they mention the fact that they are some server maintainence task that might have to be done manually (backing up things I imagine). What other task would I need to perform?? I have seen some of the server administrators
like Plesk. So what are good options for Windows Hosted VPS's??

Imagine that you have installed Windows Server and connect it to the internet. You should do all administrative tasks which are necessary to work properly your server.

Understood. That doesn't answer any of my questions??
Never worked with Windows Server. What tasks?
