Can anyone recommend a good cheap software package that does image processing? I don't want to spend a fortune to buy Adobe PhotoShop CS4. The software should do basic image processing functtions like cutting out a piece of an image and pasting it into
another image, pixel editing, crop, resize, brightness and contrast, adding more white to a whole image, etc. It should be able to input and output images in a few formats, such as JPEG.

You should try paint.net - http://www.getpaint.net/ which handles my basic image needs

Hoo Boy, I downloaded paint.net, played around with it a little bit, and I love what I see so far! I'll read the documentation and see if it can do everything I need it to do.
I downloaded GIMP and installed it. You're right, there is a LOT of stuff in GIMP. The help file is installed separately. A bug: Desktop Help didn't work until I selected "online help". Then desktop help started to work!
Thanks so much for the tips! If anyone else knows about any other image processing software, please let me know.
