I have had MPS running successfully for 2 years with no problems. All of a sudden when I try to log into the MPS control panel I get the following error msg :
Verify MPS and MPS Web services are running correctly and that the web.config are set correctly
All services are running and and the web.config values look correct to me. Anyone else seen this?

1 quick thought, restart your MPS machine.

Tried that already...No luck.

Are you using 3.5 and have you just applied the November XML updates? I did :(
If you are, check your logs for XML errors. I fixed this by restoring the ops box from a pre-update backup.

I figured out the problem.
Evidentially windows server 2003 SP2 breaks MPS if you install it on the MPS Engine server. Microsoft put a hotfix out for it here -->
This fixed the issue. Thanks for the suggestions.

Had this same issue but the file download link provided above is password protected. Please request the hotfix from Microsoft via this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939216
After we installed this on the MPS Engine server, problem resolved. ;-) You just gotta love MS sometimes, i don't know what that heck goes though their minds.

Thanks for this info - it saved my bacon.
Had to update and old post.
I had done some patch updates to MPS01 but stayed away from SP2 thinking I was being wise. Ended up not being able to log into MPS Control Panel - error message -
Verify MPS and MPS Web services are running correctly and that the web.config are set correctly, I was also geting error messages when trying to use provtest on MPS01 -
Only one top level element is allowed in an XML document.
The hotfix fixed everything - I'm backup and running.
