I am writing an application in ASP.NET which is authenticating against Active directory. I was planning to use CreatUserWizard in ASP.NET 2.0 to add new users. The only thing I don't want is the password. I only wanted the username. The reason for using
createUserWizard is so the users will be stored in the ASP.NET tbl_Users. Along the way, I found out that I could not remove the password and confirm password in createUserWizard. When I made them invisible, I got error messages back. I decided to create
my own create user page and store the fileds in my own Tbl_Users table. I used the ASP.Net Tbl_Roles. I then found out that I could not set security on my folders in my web config file because ASP.NET cannot link a role to a user since the users are in Active
directory or my own tbl_users and not in ASP.Net Tbl_Users.
My questions are:
Would anybody know the best way to authenticate against active directory and yet be able to set security to the folders eg deny users * , allow roles "User" etc. Secondly, I am using Sitemap security trimming to hide some pages from some roles. Again,
this is not working because the application does not know which users are in which roles. How can I make the application recognize users and their roles in ASP.NET. I don't want to use the Active directory domain because my users probably not in the same
group as they are aleady exisiting before the application.
I would appreciate any help
