I have followed all of the tips from this site and from the various google sites I found, but I am still having issues... Hopefully I will be able to provide enough information.
I have VS 2008 sp1 & SQL Server 2005 Dev edition installed on my machine. I created a new website made a SQL connection to a db on my machine, then went to WebSite >> ASP.NET Configuration. Clicking on the security tab I get a message unable to connect to
SQL Server database. I then click on choose data store >> Single Provider >> and then after AspNetSqlProvider | there is a db name of test. While this is a db on my SQL server it is not the one I want to connect to. So that is problem #1
Problem #2 - if I click on the hyperlink of test I receive the following:
Could not establish a connection to the database.
If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider.
So I read all the directions on running the aspnet_regsql command. After running the exe against a db named MYtestdb, stopping VS 2008 & restarting and opening the Web Site Administrator tool. I keep receiving the same message: unable to connect to SQL Server
Can someone please point me in the right direction????

After searching the Internet more, it looks like the below is the answer to my problem...... I would suggest creating a SQL connection via VS 2008 and then copy and pasting it into the connection section of machine.config.... Oh and ALWAYS be on the safe
side.... Make a backup of the file first...
all SQL providers use a connection called "LocalSqlServer" which points to a local SQL Sever Express User Instance.
You can find this string in machine.config. You have to change either the connection string, or the provider config to use a different connection string.
